BATON ROUGE — Directed Analytics, a software company that designs products to help organizations employ subject matter expertise to accelerate their ability to achieve their goals, announced its new product – Intellectual Employability Development (IEDev).

IEDev 0.5 is designed to empower case managers and subject matter experts with the tools and information they need to improve the employability of secondary school students with developmental disabilities who are working to transition to college or enter the workforce. According to the latest research, nearly 300,000 students exit secondary school special education programs each year, with only 15 percent securing competitive integrated employment, and for those with intellectual developmental disabilities, the number is less than 10 percent.

“Many of these students complete high school only to learn that they’re not equipped for competitive job placement or college,” said the Directed Analytics Director of Education Derrick Wesley. “We need to do more about employment disparities in the U.S., and IEDev 0.5 is here to change that.”

Wesley has 20 years of experience as an educator and transition specialist who has designed and facilitated vocational programs for students and young adults with intellectual disabilities.

Using the patent-pending software, case workers and subject matter experts can engage with students, create roadmaps and prescribe corrective actions as they monitor and evaluate their mannerisms, traits, behaviors, and social interactions.

Key professionals can also use the system to track, measure, and analyze the information to identify areas of improvement and opportunities for each participating student. “To help demonstrate results and encourage continued participation, our partners can illustrate the progress of its students with an interactive visual roadmap that highlights pivotal moments along the instructional development journey,” said Wesley. Coldspring Independent School District near Houston, Texas, is the first to pilot the IEDev 0.5 capability.

As more individuals with developmental disabilities are competitively integrated into the workforce, the more the labor shortage can improve. “During this pandemic, many businesses have an unprecedented number of positions to fill. With IEDev, we can help fill this void by developing a workforce of well-trained and fully capable individuals,” said Wesley.
